Teague Mimics Kokesh on Congressional Pay Cuts, Comes Up Short

By Andrew Sharp, on Mar 8, 2010

PayCut

US Rep. Harry Teague (D-NM) announced last week he is cosponsoring a bill which would cut Congressional salaries by 5%.  Months earlier, Adam Kokesh challenged his fellow Republicans to take a much larger cut in pay, closer to 70%.

"It's unthinkable that representatives get paid three times as much as the average American," says Kokesh.  "In times like these, we need to show the American people some humility.  Once I am elected, I will introduce legislation to cap Congressional salaries at the national average income."

Kokesh is pleased to see lawmakers following his lead on this issue.  Over 4,000 people have joined the Facebook group he started called "I Want to Give Congress a Pay Cut."

US Rep. Ben Luján (D-NM) has not yet cosponsored the pay cut legislation.

More Americans Unemployed Since Luján Took Office

By Andrew Sharp, on Mar 5, 2010

The Luján-Pelosi-Reid "stimulus" still has our country on the wrong track economically.

JobsLostFeb10

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says 9.7% of Americans are unemployed as of February.  This is the same rate as in January, but more people are now working part time.  The U6 alternative gauge of the unemployment rate, which includes discouraged workers and those forced to work part-time, rose to 16.8% from 16.5%.

Just over one year has passed since US Rep. Ben Luján (D-NM) was sworn into office and promised to "bring jobs to New Mexico." New Mexicans in the Third District are still hurting. They are wondering why Ben Luján voted this week to spend another $15 billion that the Government doesn't have.

"The Third District doesn't buy Luján's claim that he is bringing jobs to New Mexico," says Republican challenger Adam Kokesh.  "Once elected, I will help get the economy back on track by putting an end to this out-of-control spending."

Meanwhile, Harry Reid  thinks it's a "good thing" that "only" 36,000 Americans lost their jobs today:

Adam Kokesh Brings Hope that Change Can Come to Washington

By Andrew Sharp, on Mar 3, 2010

SFReporterLogo

Santa Fe Reporter says Adam Kokesh is a "Young Turk" in the mold of New Mexico-style Republicanism like former Gov. Gary Johnson.  Adam is the local face of a movement that "brings hope that a change is going to come" to local libertarians and conservatives, independents and Republicans.  As the article explains, "it’s true that Republicans, particularly the libertarian breed, have an opening."  The Tea Party has already succeeded in giving libertarian hopefuls like Kokesh an edge.

Even as former state Sen. Grubesic admits that the New Mexico Democrats are corrupt, he is still so out of touch as to think that "liberty" and "the Constitution" are code words for hate.  Kokesh gives voters an alternative to incumbent Congressman Ben Luján and his friends like Dolores Huerta, "who organized the United Farmworkers Union with César Chávez and is a board member of the Democratic Socialists of America. That’s right—a socialist."

Luján Out of Touch with New Mexicans

By Andrew Sharp, on Mar 2, 2010

NationalJournal

US Rep. Ben Luján (D-NM) has the poorest approval rating of any New Mexico Congressman.  This is because he doesn't represent the values of New Mexicans in his district, 76% of whom self-identify as either Moderates or Conservatives.

According to the National Journal, Ben Luján ranks 350th out of 435 in voting for Conservative principles, much lower than any other representative from New Mexico.

Luján voted for taking away 2% of the salaries of New Mexicans without health insurance.  He voted for using tax payer money to fund abortions.  He voted for disarming New Mexicans in National Parks.

"Luján is wrong for the Third District," says Republican challenger Adam Kokesh.  "He doesn't represent New Mexican values."

It's Election Day and Santa Fe Needs a New Mayor!

By Andrew Sharp, on Mar 2, 2010

KeplerforMayor

A reminder to all of our fellow Santa Feans to go out and vote for Asenath Kepler for mayor, a true conservative who can bring some fiscal sanity to Santa Fe.  The Kokesh team has been phone banking for her over the past week and we are encouraged by the responses we have been getting.  Santa Feans want less government spending and more accountability, and they know Kepler is the right person for the job!

We would also like to thank the Rio Grande Foundation for hosting the District 3 Candidate's Forum last night here in Santa Fe.  The video of the event will be posted on their webpage shortly, and we will repost the link here.

Poll Shows Luján Extremely Vulnerable

By Andrew Sharp, on Feb 28, 2010
Voters in New Mexico want  new representation in Washington, a recent independent poll has  shown.  After US Rep. Ben Ray Luján  (D-NM) voted to take 2% of the salaries of New  Mexicans without health insurance, 42% of voters in New  Mexico's Third District disapprove of him as a Congressman.   Luján  has the "poorest"  approval rating of any New Mexico Congressman, with only 31% of voters  approving.
"With  Lujan's surging disapproval, I will send him packing in November,"  says Republican challenger Adam Kokesh. Mr. Kokesh understands that New  Mexico businesses create  jobs, not politicians. "As your next Congressman, I will hold  the line against waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending."
Adam  questions Luján's fairness in  wanting to penalize New Mexicans without health insurance. He  represents an honest and trustworthy change. He will represent the  opinions of the people, not stand with out-of-touch politicos like Luján  taking orders from Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
The  PPP poll showed Congressman Luján with a weaker base of support against Kokesh than his primary  opponent. The 76% moderate/conservative number is similar to the poll numbers in  Massachusetts on the eve of Republican Scott Brown's Senate victory.  Public Policy Polling surveyed 400  voters in New Mexico's Third Congressional District from February 18th  to 20th.

An Invitation to Our GOP Gubernatorial Candidates

By Adam Kokesh, on Feb 23, 2010

Dear Allen, Doug, Janice, Pete, and Susana,

It has been great getting to know you over the past few months along the trail. As I have faced the challenges of running for political office, I have gained respect for you all as individuals facing similar challenges. Many of my supporters have asked me who I am supporting in the Republican Gubernatorial primary and while I have candidly shared my thoughts about each of you, I remain uncommitted.

I am hereby extending an invitation to each of you to join me for an interview at the Kokesh for Congress studios to get to know each of you better and share a conversation with my supporters through my YouTube channel. This will be a great chance for you to get your message out to a new audience. I assure you that we will be fair in conducting and presenting these interviews.

We will do this on a first come first serve basis. The interview should not take more than ten minutes and will be subject to your approval before posting. If you have any questions about how this will be handled, please feel free to contact Andrew Sharp, our communications director at (505) 470-1917. I look forward to sitting down with each of you.

Love, faith, respect,

Adam Kokesh

After hearing about this, some of the other candidates asked to be interviewed as well. We intend to extend the same invitation to Lieutenant Governor, Commissioner of Public Lands, and all other state-wide candidates as time allows before the primary.
